Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 cup granulated sugar

– 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

– 1 teaspoon baking powder

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

– 2 pounds fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

– 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan.

2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, 1/2 cup of the sugar, 1/2 cup of the butter, baking powder, and salt. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Press half of the crumb mixture into the prepared baking pan to form the crust.

4. In a medium bowl, toss the sliced strawberries with the remaining 1/2 cup sugar and cornstarch.

5. Spread the strawberry mixture over the crust.

6. Crumble the remaining crumb mixture over the top of the strawberries.

7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

8. Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting and serving.

Notes

For a deeper flavor, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the crust mixture. If you prefer a sweeter filling, increase the sugar to 3/4 cup. These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
